There is no doubt that Hackgate, Levinson and new technology are revolutionising the British media. But so far debate about the future of the press has tended to focus on how news is reported and consumed rather than on the kind of stories we‘ll be reading.
How will journalists excite, enrage and influence us in 2020? What stories will interest us? Will it all be celebrity-based listicles and clickbait? Will there still be a market for long-form, serious content?
The debate will be hosted by The Observer columnist Miranda Sawyer, with panellists Sophie Heawood (columnist for The Guardian Weekend), Matt Kelly, (formerly Head of Features at Mirror Group, currently Digital Director at Local World Media) and Douglas McCabe (media analyst at Enders Analysis)
Together they will examine what the future has in store for our media and whether we, the British public, have the press we deserve.
Part on our on-going talk series in partnership with Bug London, a group of writers and business thinkers. They investigate the socio-economics of pop culture through writing, talks and reports.
