Andre (pictured) graduated from our Employment Academy at the end of last year. Before completing the programme he had already been hired by Chef David to work in the kitchen of the club. A passionate artist he has loaned HoSB a beautiful painting of the House, titled ‘House of Confidence’, which was unveiled at the graduation ceremony in December.
In his own words…
“My name is Andre Calleja and I recently completed the 12 week Employment Preparation Programme at The House of St Barnabas.
It has been a fantastic experience where I have learned many things. Becoming more confident has led to me being employed as a Commis Chef at the House.
My main hobby is painting and drawing, it is something I love. I have used Acrylic paints to create a reproduction of a photograph of the House.
The painting was extremely challenging as I wanted to show the rough surface of the bricks and the smoothness of other areas. I enjoyed working with the perspective and also incorporating the reflections from the windows. The House means a lot to me, so it was a pleasure to create this painting.”
Andre’s incredibly detailed artwork can now be seen hanging in the entrance hall to the club.
