A Moment of Reflection

17 January 2018

We believe it’s really important, after a busy year, to take a moment to reflect and acknowledge everything you’ve achieved. For us 2017 was a year of collaboration. We worked with many fantastic people and organisations who share our values and our vision of creating a fairer London. We thought we’d share just a few of our highlights with you, as well as a few teasers about what is coming up this year…

We collaborated with BAFTA 195 Picadilly and The Springboard Charity to run a pilot, off-site, 6-week employment programme in events hospitality, which included skills training in fine dining and banqueting, and work experience at BAFTA 195 in Piccadilly. All six graduates of the programme secured work!

We celebrated slow, sustainable fashion over our Future of Fashion Weekend with Fashion Revolution. They’re doing amazing things to drive positive change in the fashion industry. Find out more about how you can #dosomething to support their mission here.

We collaborated with Bestival, Worldwide Festival and Eat Your Own Ears to host Festival Embassy, a series of three micro-festivals in the House. Emerging and established artists took to the stage, we got crafty and danced the nights away. Together we launched our Pay it Forward ticket scheme, opening access to culture to people who couldn’t afford to buy themselves a ticket.

With our friends B+A, we held our inaugural St Barnabas Address, with movement-maker Charlie Dark. The address is an annual keynote speech on the theme of encouragement. We’ve got a brilliant speaker lined up for 2018 which we can’t wait to tell you about!

We talked about The Secret Life of Cyclists and debated Is Money Ruining London? in our ongoing series, 37 Things You Need To Know About Modern Britain, which we curate with cultural collective BUG. There’ll be more talks asking provocative questions about life today later in the year – watch this space! Meanwhile, you can enjoy our back catalogue of talks as podcasts and films.

We teamed up with Own Art to make it easier to start your own art collection by spreading the costs, interest-free. Making art accessible is really important to us which is why our monthly tours are free, and the private view of our new exhibition is open to the public. RSVP to join us next Friday 26th January!

World-renowned agency M&C Saatchi worked with us to create advertising that would make the most of a generous offer from Soho Estates, to use their hoarding on Manette Street to let Soho (and the world!) know we are here. The result is a series of brightly coloured posters and mirrors which invite passers-by to notice our Chapel and find out a little more about our club.

We are so grateful to all of the people and organisations who supported us throughout 2017 and made it all possible! 2018 is our 5th anniversary year as a social enterprise members’ club (my, how time has flown!) and we are looking forward to even more collaborations with incredible people and lots more cultural events. We’ll announce all of our public events via our newsletter, so sign up at the top right of the page to be in the know or keep a close eye on our website! Meanwhile, we wish a happy 2018 to you and yours.
