Y not I is a series of 20 screenprints by Nicole Polonsky. The prints are a close rendering of found poems, lyrics and other texts by the artist’s brother Toby Polonsky (1965–1986), who took his own life at the age of 20. In this temporary installation, Y not I resonates with the many forms of memorial and commemoration built into the Chapel. In a break with convention, visitors are invited to handle the original prints, which are distributed on the Chapel’s stone seats. Through these encounters, Y not I is momentarily animated.
The presentation at the Chapel includes the first performance of Let’s talk…, a specially commissioned composition by Andrew Lovett. The recorded piece will be played at 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm on the opening evening, and at 30 minutes past each hour for the duration of the show.

First exhibited on the island of San Servolo in the Venetian Lagoon, the installation comprises a number of suspended sculptures – the Oracle – together with a set of wheels which can be spun to obtain the Oracle’s response to our questions. The interaction with the sculpture highlights the easy transition from rationality to faith to superstition, but also the distorted belief that mankind cannot influence or determine its future.
